Outside

'Side = outside
nooooo! (happily) = snow (unhappily has other interpretations)

I take the blame for teaching Adi to eat snow- I just wanted her to like it. Turns out that isn't a problem. And a branch of a bush is pretty tasty too.

The girls are currently fond of the mittens ('mitt') and will help push their hands into them. And the matching puppy and bear hats get them lots of attention (as well as keeping their ears warm!)

Sick days

Mae apparently picked up a cold at the playground; her nose was running on Friday morning. Dave, Adi & I got it within an hour of each other on Saturday night, so we've been going through a lot of tissues at our house. Both girls have used this opportunity to learn how to blow their noses; Mae is so successful at it that you have to make sure to wipe it up before snot gets on everything.

It has been almost nice in a way: on Sunday and Monday (Dave stayed home from work) we just alternated sleeping in 'the cave' while the other cared for the babies. Luckily the girls didn't seem as sick as we felt (or, as Dave suggested, they are just tougher) so caring for them hasn't been too difficult.

(An aside about the cave; it is our downstairs guestroom with a humidifier for noise cover and it has made parenting so much more survivable. If a night isn't going well, Dave and I trade off sleeping down there while the other is on duty upstairs. It makes me wonder how those of my friends and family who are parenting in small, cave-less, apartments survive!)

Monday night was difficult, as Dave had to teach karate and I had to get the girls ready for bed on my own. This ended up with Adi crying for about half an hour before I figured out that I just needed to hold her in my arms while she drank her milk, while I did everything: brushed Mae's teeth, refilled Mae's milk... She went to sleep just fine when I put her down but was uncomfortable enough from her congestion that she woke up repeatably all night. Luckily today was a work day for me, so the nanny watched them while I took a three-hour nap (the cave!) before logging on from home. (This is presumably why I can't sleep now). Tonight was much better, with Dave home and all of us feeling better.

The book here is a compilation of Curious George that Uncle Yac gave the girls for Christmas last year. They love it and often ask to read "Jorj." They love the page where he tries to take a balloon and ends up floating away with the bunch. "B'loon! b'loon!"

Speaking of words, one of my favorite things right now is that, no matter what color something actually is, when asked they will tell you it is "blue". And similarly, how many of something always gets counted as "two". So we just have to make sure to ask the right questions. They also will jab the page several times to make it look like they are counting.

Summer in January

We've had a week or two of unseasonably warm weather, so we've been playing outside a lot.

(Getting dirt off of their hands)

Mae and the two Hats

(Yep, Adi had to go get her own hat)
