A Solid Saga

Ready and waiting:

First bites:

Yum!

New gear

In honor of the girls outgrowing their car seats (and hence their stroller, which only worked with a snap-in infant car seat) we splurged on new car seats and a jogging stroller.

Adi tries out the new car seat in the living room:

Ready for our first walk in the BOB Duallie on Friday afternoon:

One day later, and several (tens of) degrees warmer, we head out on a family jog:

Thanks to everyone who contributed at my baby shower toward the stroller: it is awesome! It really does drive "like a cloud" as one amazon.com reviewer claimed.

Half a year

Happy 6-month birthday, Mae & Adi!

Mae celebrated by starting to roll back-to-tummy (on Wednesday). Now when she's on the floor she flip-flops: tummy/back/tummy/back and looks rather pleased with herself. Luckily for us she hasn't figured out how to roll over the left side of her body, so she can't get more than one body width away from where we put her. It's probably not far away so this weekend we will put a barrier on the stairs.

Adi is close to rolling back-to-tummy (at about a pound heavier, I think it is harder for her to do the physical things). But her laugh has developed from a little chuckle to a very grown-up sounding guffaw. Is there anything more fun than getting a baby to laugh?

Developmental update

No pictures right now, but it seems like the girls get new skills every other day.

Yesterday, Mae cried when Dave took a toy away from her. (It was time to eat, he wasn't just being mean!) Now they both sometimes get upset when their caretaker (Dave, my parents or me) goes out of sight.

Dave noticed that Adi is trying to push up to her knees during tummy time. She doesn't get very high but does try to lift her belly off the ground. It's a big belly, so she has a ways to go! She hasn't show much interest in rolling over- in fact, during tummy time she pushes her head up so high and stable that it is difficult to make her roll over. But she did roll over last week for the 4th time in her life.

Mae is really enjoying rolling from tummy to back. I think she's only doing it in one direction (rolling over the left side of her body). She is very deliberate: she arches her back and leans her head back, lifts her right arm straight out and over, and waits for gravity to do its work. The funniest thing is she is trying to do this when she is being held.

Sock-as-toy

And what do you do with a toy? Stick it in your mouth, of course!

Note in the first picture, Adi is practicing happy baby while making her new face.

These pictures were taken by my parents. The girls and I stayed with them this week while Dave was on a business trip to Japan, which was like a little vacation for me!

Happy baby

So I think there's a yoga position called Happy Baby. Now I see why they call it that.

Adi was the first to find her feet, last week. Mae shortly after.

Adi is also working on some new expressions.

Grandparents' visit

Dave's parents, Bill & Pat, stayed with us this week while Bill attended a conference in Denver. It was great for us to have help with the babies and the finishing touches to the deck (the warm weather cooperated, too!) but it was even better for the girls to get to know their grandparents a little better.

Mae was very smiley and easy-going, letting anyone hold her and showing off her rolling over ( a skill that has come and gone- mostly gone- for the past few months).
Adi is having trouble with new people; a few weeks ago she started screaming when put into the arms of someone whom she hasn't seen a lot of. So she was a bit more challenging this week, crying suddenly when she looked up and noticed who was holding her, or when a new voice spoke or laughed loudly. But she seemed to adjust to the "strangers" by the end of their visit.
